As stated in the [[Start Here|Front Page]] of the site, the goal of the Aeternum Sector is to drive continual hobby while rolling dice through a narrative setting that encourage players to feel weight to their actions.

# Campaign Guidelines
When thinking about list building there are a few guidelines to keep in mind that best support this goal.
1. Your opponent's enjoyment of the game should be your first priority when showing up to a campaign night.
1. There is no prize for first place - even if winning is a good thing for your faction. We are telling a story, not aiming for a trophy.
2. Painted Minis are better than Unpainted Minis, always.
3. Have fun with it and tell your own story with your own army.
1. Create characters, upgrade units that do cool stuff, just have fun and dig into the Heresy setting as much as you can.
2. Related to this, named-unique characters from the different factions are to not be included in Campaign lists. They were not present in the Aeternum Sector during the Heresy. **If you really want to paint the model and use it, you can. But they would represent their closest non-unique equivalent.**
4. When in doubt, chat with the group when thinking about what's next to add beforehand. A quick 'I'm bringing X, does that work for the story we're telling?' goes a long way.
1. That being said, bringing a freshly painted unit as a surprise for everyone is always enjoyable but surprising everyone with the "meta pick" may not be as well received.
# Phases of a Campaign:
In addition, given that the Aeternum Sector varies in point size from 500 through 3000 points in 250 point intervals, it's best to view the campagin in three phases.
1. 500-1000 points - This is the opening act of the narrative. Your opponents may be new to the game, the setting, and the hobby. **Think kill teams and reconnaissance forces, not full companies.**
1. We are here to develop skills and comfort over time. In the game while rolling dice and outside of it on the hobby desk.
2. Quality of hobby may vary between players and that is okay.
3. Tanks and 2+ saves should be few and far between.
4. Focus on Centurions and Sergeants leading smaller forces as they establish themselves in the sector.
5. Your force represents the survivors/scouts/advance elements before the main battle.
6. For those forces made up of Non-Astartes, Support choices for Mechanicum are totally valid early on (just keep the Thanatars at home).
1. Similarly, it makes complete sense for a Solar Aux Marshal or Militia Force Commander to be here from the start!s
7. Track your characters' stories - that Sergeant who survived three battles might earn a name and special equipment by Phase 2.
2. 1250-2250 points - The story is picking up now and hopefully, the identify of your force has developed into something tangible at this time.
1. Characters have identity, they've had epic moments, and you are figuring out what you want your force to be by the end of the season.
2. Your Praetors (and their equivalent leaders) have arrived into the setting and are building up their forces from here, rallying behind the Junior Officers that arrived earlier.
1. They didn't bother themselves with low impact actions until now as the stakes begin to rise.
3. Be mindful of your army and keep an eye on what your opponents are bringing, calling back to the primary goal of this narrative - your opponents enjoyment in game.
4. The battles are getting bigger, the armies and factions have regrouped, and there is more agency as leaders of the different factions rise (or fall).
3. 2500-3000 points - Now we are in the big leagues. No restrictions to what units you bring. Bring out the big guns and lets have some epic moments!
1. WAR. DEATH. DESTRUCTION.
# Campaign Continuity
1. You are not required to bring the entire list of the past session(s) to later ones. Sometimes we add things that are more than 250 points to a list and its okay to be flexible here.
2. If you are feeling burn out, feel free to bring something totally new. But keep in mind Guideline 2.
3. If you missed earlier sessions, feel free to join in mid session! Attendance is not required but those who stick through the Season and live up to its intent will be rewarded!
1. New players joining mid-campaign represent reinforcements, relief forces, or scattered elements regrouping - the narrative always has room for fresh faces!
